Au courant des XVIe et XVIIe s. Garachico devint le port le plus important de l&rsquo;\u00eele. En 1646 cent personnes furent tu\u00e9es et quarante bateaux furent coul\u00e9s lors d&rsquo;un glissement de terrain. La fin de la p\u00e9riode faste de Garachico fut provoqu\u00e9e en 1706 par l&rsquo;\u00e9ruption d&rsquo;un crat\u00e8re secondaire du Teide, le mont Pico Viejo. Il n&rsquo;y avait pas eu de morts mais la ville fut recouverte en grande partie de lave, le vignoble avoisinant fut d\u00e9truit et le port fut rempli avec de la lave.
